See how she runs! Kirsten pulls it out all the stops for the GB 4x400m Women's relay team

Read the report on the 21st European Athletics Junior Championships in Tallinn, Estonia (21-24 July 2011), but above all take time to watch the video using the link below.  I guarantee that you will be jumping up and down in your seat with excitement and that you will agree with the commentator about the biggest piece of cake... intrigued??? all will become clear when you watch the video clip!

The individual 400m was only two rounds of 3 heats to a final. Kirsten ran a fraction outside her Personal Best in her heat and was very unlucky not to qualify for the final. She ended up in a very tough heat with three girls running PB's to edge her out. Our quickest GB girl prior to the Championships qualified for the final with a slower time than Kirsten. Kirsten was not a happy girl!
This gave her the opportunity to run the last leg of the 4x400m relay in the relay heats while one of the GB girls who had made the individual final was rested. Kirsten ran a very solid last leg, was the quickest of the GB quartet and secured her place in the team for the final.

Reserve a spare 5 minutes, sit comfortably, fasten your seatbelt, click on the link which takes you to the men's race, scroll down the page, select Women's 4x400m ( top row, second in from the left) and click to play.

Waterpolo: MHSG U14 team are national champions!

On Tuesday 14th June, the Under 14 (years 7-9) travelled to Bedford Modern School to take part in the Under 14 English Schools Girls National Finals.

MHSG 10 Kings Warwick 2
MHSG 9 Alleyns 1
MHSG 8 Archbishop Blanch 0

The team completed dominated all of the opposition and played some of the best water polo I have seen played by a school team. The team were so on top that we were able to rest all of the older year 9 girls in the second half of all of the games and just play with the year 7 and 8s.

They were the overall winners, so are now national champions for the second year in a row at this age group.

Player of the tournament was Brearnna Close.
Katy Andrew was the top goalscorer with 11 goals.
Katie Hampson scored the first goal in every game and scored 10 goals in total.
Rosie Huck was the captain and played exceptionally well and also scored 10 goals in total.

The team was:

Prep Junior Sports Day June 14 2011

Prep Junior Sports Day  June 14 2011

The annual Prep Sports Day was held on Tuesday 14th June during the afternoon. It was a glorious day and the Year 3, 4, 5 and 6 girls did themselves proud.

All races were well contested and there were some very close calls.

4AA were overall winners of the Year 3&4 event and 5CS in the Year 5&6 event This is the first time in history that a Year 5 class has beaten the Year 6’s - an amazing achievement. Well done, 5CS!

Here are some Year 3 and Year 4 quotations:

Hannah: “Sports Day was fun and everybody was very supportive to me. They cheered for me even though I didn’t win anything. They were still saying, “Well done!”.

Nadia: “Sports Day was my first Junior one and it was by far my favourite. I enjoyed screaming and cheering for my friends.”

Naina: “I fell off the space hopper lots of times; it was so funny and everybody made me confident to get up and carry on.”
